DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW OF THE INSTITUTE OF LAW

Svitlana Leleka, a student at the National Institute of Law, shared her enriching experience of attending the Summer School on the Rule of Law in Sopot, Poland. According to Svitlana, the program offered an invaluable opportunity to delve deeply into the fundamental principles enshrined in Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU) and witness how these principles apply in real-world scenarios.

Svitlana highlighted the program’s well-structured curriculum, which balanced theoretical knowledge with practical application. She noted that the instructors’ professionalism and clear delivery made it easier to grasp complex legal concepts. One of the most engaging aspects of the program was the hands-on approach to learning. Svitlana fondly recalled a session on the European Union’s voting system, where participants role-played as representatives of various EU member states. The exercise challenged students to defend their country’s positions, form alliances, and negotiate compromises—an invaluable experience in understanding the dynamics of EU decision-making.

Beyond the academic framework, Svitlana emphasized the importance of networking with like-minded peers from Ukraine and around the world. These interactions allowed for the exchange of legal insights and best practices, fostering a rich cross-cultural learning experience. The program also struck a perfect balance between education and leisure. Participants had the chance to explore Poland’s history, including visits to the European Solidarity Center and the World War II Museum, which added cultural depth to the educational journey.

Svitlana wholeheartedly recommends this summer school to anyone keen on expanding their understanding of the rule of law and the European Union’s legal system. She believes the program not only enhances legal expertise but also contributes to personal and professional growth in the field of law.
