On 17 November 2025, the Department of Administrative, Commercial Law and Financial and Economic Security of the Academic and Research Institute of Law at Sumy State University hosted online lecture delivered by Professor Dr. Ulviya Sanli Aydin (Dokuz Eylül University, Türkiye). The event was organized for students of the 081 “Law” program, academic staff, and all those interested in contemporary challenges of international criminal and humanitarian law.
Professor Aydin presented a lecture in English titled “War Crimes in International Relations”, focusing on:
-
the legal nature of war crimes and the complexities of their qualification;
-
international mechanisms of criminal accountability;
-
the role of international judicial institutions in maintaining peace, ensuring the rule of law, and safeguarding global security;
-
modern challenges faced by the system of international justice in the context of armed conflicts.
Participants had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss practical issues, and engage in a substantive dialogue regarding the effectiveness of existing international legal mechanisms for responding to war crimes. Conducting the lecture in English also enhanced students’ academic communication skills and allowed them to participate in an expert-level discussion with an international scholar.
This event marks another step in strengthening the Academic and Research Institute of Law’s cooperation with international partners and expanding educational opportunities for students in the field of international law amid global instability.
The Department of Administrative, Commercial Law and Financial and Economic Security extends its sincere gratitude to Professor Ulviya Sanli Aydin for her insightful, timely, and inspiring lecture and looks forward to further fruitful collaboration with Dokuz Eylül University.
