The professional educational program 081 “Law Studies” is based on the study of international and pan-European practices in the field of jurisprudence by higher education seekers, with an in-depth study of administrative law regulations, current issues in administrative law and process, judicial proceedings, and mediation, constitutional law and process, civil law and process, criminal law and process, labor law and social security law, which form the list of compulsory components of the educational program, with improvement and expansion of the list of elective courses. The practical application of acquired knowledge, skills, and abilities is carried out through the involvement of higher education seekers in scientific research and grant projects and participation in international academic mobility programs.
The Educational and Scientific Institute of Law operates a legal clinic and a Scientific and Consultation Center for Legal Research at Sumy State University, which actively involves higher education students in practical training and in providing free legal assistance to the population. Students have the opportunity to undergo practical training at such practice bases as the Sumy District Administrative Court and the Economic Court of Sumy Oblast, the Main Office of the State Tax Service in Sumy Oblast, the Sumy Scientific Research Expert-Criminalistic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Territorial Administration of the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine in Sumy Oblast, the Law Firm “Hrytsyk,” the Main Office of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Sumy Oblast, and other state institutions.
The program outcomes allow graduates to be employed in positions according to the National Classifier of Ukraine: Classifier of Professions (DK 003:2010), which require a higher education degree in the field of 081 “Law”; to work in judicial and law enforcement agencies, justice bodies, advocacy, notary, state and local government bodies, in enterprises of all forms of ownership, educational and scientific institutions, while providing highly qualified legal assistance in various areas of regulation of legal, social relations, administrative services; to offer alternative ways of dispute resolution to individuals seeking legal assistance; to interpret and apply legal norms of current national and international legislation, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights.
