On April 22, 2026, an open online lecture was held at the academic and research institute of law of Sumy State University, featuring Hanna Shcherba, Chief Specialist of the Unit for Supporting the Government Agent before the European Court of Human Rights of the Eastern Interregional Department of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
The event was organized as part of the institute’s ongoing policy aimed at integrating practical expertise into the educational process and strengthening the applied dimension of legal education.
The lecture, titled “Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights: Just Satisfaction, Individual Measures, and Impact on National Legislation,” addressed key aspects of the implementation of states’ international legal obligations.
The audience included third-year bachelor’s students majoring in Law and International Law, as well as academic staff of the профиль department.
During the lecture, the speaker not only outlined the theoretical foundations of the execution of ECHR judgments but also demonstrated their practical application through relevant case law. Particular attention was devoted to the issues of just satisfaction, the implementation of individual measures aimed at restoring violated rights, and the transformative impact of the Court’s decisions on national legal systems.
The topic generated considerable interest among participants. The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students had the opportunity to ask questions about the practical aspects of implementing Court judgments and the consequences of non-compliance.
Such events contribute to developing students’ comprehensive understanding of international human rights protection mechanisms and enhancing their professional legal thinking.
We express our sincere gratitude to Hanna Hryhoriivna for the insightful presentation and openness to professional dialogue, and we look forward to further cooperation.
